Texas Tech’s Josh Jung Wins 2019 Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award

The Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award (BBCSA) presented by SR Bats announced today that Texas Tech infielder Josh Jung has won the 2019 award.  Jung will be honored at a gala on November 5 at the Fort Worth Club.

“I am humbled and honored to be selected as the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award recipient for 2019,” said Josh Jung.  “I am proud to be recognized as a student-athlete and would like to congratulate the other finalists, who were equally deserving.  The award is special because it rewards not only the athlete, but includes high academic standards and personal integrity.  Thank you for the recognition.  I will uphold the morals, values, and ethics that are expected with this prestigious honor.”

Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award Announces Finalists for 2019 Honor

Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger is presented by SR Bats

The Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award presented by SR Bats announced today the finalists for the 2019 award.  The four finalists are Texas Tech’s Josh Jung, Tulane’s Kody Hoese, New Mexico State’s Nick Gonzales and Texas Tech’s Cameron Warren.

The BBCSA, created by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, was open to nominations from all Division I baseball programs in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma.  The BBCSA originally had 30 players nominated for the award at the beginning of the season and added 18 players to its midseason watch list.  The award is based on performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity.

Standout Big 12 Tournament Lands Watson Player of the Week Honors

watson-tcuTCU outfielder Josh Watson posted a .500 average (12-for-24) with 10 runs batted in to capture the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Player of the Week Award – Conference Tournament Edition. Watson had multiple hits in all five games playing against Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Baylor as part of the Big 12 Tournament. Saturday against OSU, he had a four-hit game with three RBIs.

Overall for the season, Watson is batting .335 with 10 homers and 42 runs batted in. He currently ranks second all time at TCU for games played in a career. He is a senior who played high school baseball at Martin High School in Arlington.

Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award Adds 18 Players to Midseason Watch List

The Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award (BBCSA) presented by SR Bats announced on Monday the players on its watch list for the 2019 college baseball season.

The award, created by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, was open to nominations from all Division I baseball programs in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico.  This year’s watch list consists of 30 players representing 26 programs in the five states.  The BBCSA is based on performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity.

The BBCSA will announce finalists for the award in May.  The winner of the third annual Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award presented by SR Bats will be announced in June and honored at a gala in the fall.

Baylor’s Richard Cunningham, Texas A&M’s Braden Shewmake and Houston’s Joe Davis are the only players who have been on the BBCSA watch list for all three years of the award’s existence.  Two players on this year’s watch list, Texas Tech’s Josh Jung (2018) and A&M’s Shewmake (2017), were finalists for the award in the past.
