The Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award (BBCSA) announced today that eight players have been added to the Watch List for the 2017 award. The inaugural award, created by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, was open to nominations from all Division I baseball programs in Texas.
The eight additions to the Watch List are Houston’s Jake Scheiner (.365 batting average), Houston Baptist’s Spencer Halloran (.356), Sam Houston State’s Robie Rojas (.329), Rice’s Dominic DiCaprio (.359), Lamar’s Cutter McDowell (.362), Texas State’s Theodore Hoffman (.347), Texas A&M’s Braden Shewmake (.361) and Kacy Clemens from the University of Texas (.305).
“We looked at the leading hitters among the Division I programs across the state and then worked with the schools to vet the multiple candidates on the academic and personal integrity criteria on which the award is based,” said BBCSA executive director Tracy Taylor. “We are extremely excited to add these eight student-athletes to the BBCSA Watch List.”
The BBCSA originally had 22 players nominated for the award from 21 Division I programs in the state. The award is based on performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity.
The BBCSA will announce the semifinalists for this year’s award on May 24. The winner of the inaugural Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award will be announced on June 12 and honored at a gala in the fall.
